Niantic just rolled out their latest update, version 0.35.0 to Pokemon Go. Although the latest update didn’t activate tracking as we were hoping for, it added a huge update to gameplay. Niantic has finally added a Pokemon appraisal system, which allows trainers to finally gauge their Pokemon using IV. This update grades your Pokemon from team leaders, and today we’ll walk you through how this Pokemon appraisal system works.

For weeks Pokemon Go trainers have been walking a thin line, using third party applications, spreadsheets and other means to calculate Pokemon potential. Instead of trainers downloading some of these apps, the Pokemon appraisal system has finally arrived. Let’s take a look at the responses you get from Candela, Blanche or Spark using this Pokemon appraisal system.

Pokemon appraisal system – Team Valor

The first part of the Pokemon appraisal system for Team Valor includes the IV range of your Pokemon. The Individual Value shows you what true potential your Pokemon has. Depending on the IV value of your Pokemon, Candela will respond with the following.
Phrase: IV Range
Overall, your (Pokemon) simply amazes me. It can accomplish anything! 80% – 100%
Overall, your (Pokemon) is a strong Pokemon. You should be proud! 67% – 79%
Overall, your (Pokemon) is a decent Pokemon 51% – 66%
Overall, your (Pokemon) may not be great in battle, but I still like it! 0% – 50%
Pokemon Statistics are broken up into three categories, Attack, Defense and Stamina. Depending on which is strongest in your Pokemon, the Pokemon appraisal system tells you what’s best. If a Pokemon’s other stats are equal to its best stat, Candela will tell you : “I’m just as impressed with its Attack or HP or Defense.”
Phrase Reason
I’m blown away by its stats. WOW! Pokemon has at least one stat with a bonus (IV) value of 15, the maximum.
It’s got excellent stats! How exciting! Pokemon has at least one stat with a bonus (IV) value of 13 or 14.
Its stats indicate that in battle, it’ll get the job done. Pokemon has at least one stat with a bonus (IV) value of 8 to 12.
Its stats don’t point to greatness in battle. Pokemon has at least one stat with a bonus (IV) value of 0 to 7.

Although many trainers believe that size has something to do with potential, there are many others ( including the Pokemon Go Reddit community ) that think it’s just window dressing. Either way, the new Pokemon appraisal system tells you what is going on.

Phrase Size
Your (Pokemon) is gigantic—the largest I’ve ever seen! XL
Your (Pokemon) is rather sizable, that’s for sure! Large
Aww, what a small (Pokemon)! It’s rather cute, I’d say. Small
Your (Pokemon) is so tiny, I almost didn’t notice it! XS

Pokemon appraisal system – Team Mystic

Team Mystic trainers get a different set of responses from Blanche in regards to their Pokemon Individual Value. The IV set of your Pokemon is broken down into a percentage, that is displayed next to this message.
Phrase: IV Range
Overall, your (Pokemon) is a wonder! What a breathtaking Pokemon! 80% – 100%
Overall, your (Pokemon) has certainly caught my attention. 67% – 79%
Overall, your (Pokemon) is above average. 51% – 66%
Overall, your (Pokemon) is not likely to make much headway in battle. 0% – 50%
Much like Team Valor, Blanche tells you the best values of your Pokemon. These statistics are what weighs into the outcome of combat, and shows you where your Pokemon is strongest.
Phrase Reason
Its stats exceed my calculations. It’s incredible! Pokemon has at least one stat with a bonus (IV) value of 15, the maximum.
I am certainly impressed by its stats, I must say. Pokemon has at least one stat with a bonus (IV) value of 13 or 14.
Its stats are noticeably trending to the positive. Pokemon has at least one stat with a bonus (IV) value of 8 to 12.
Its stats are not out of the norm, in my opinion Pokemon has at least one stat with a bonus (IV) value of 0 to 7.

There’s quite a bit of discussion about size and the impact it has on Pokemon, but to be honest there’s little proof of any correlation to gameplay. Unlike previous Pokemon titles, Pokemon Go doesn’t seem to take size into account.

Phrase Size
The size of your (Pokemon) is… colossal. This is indeed exceptional. Fascinating! XL
Your (Pokemon) is above average in size. Large
Your (Pokemon) is below average in size. Small
Your (Pokemon) is tinier than any we have on record. Astounding. XS
