The long wait is almost over, as Niantic confirmed that Legendary Pokemon will be added to the game this fall. Some of the rarest Pokemon will be coming to Pokemon Go, including the trio of Zapdos, Moltres and Articuno. Of course the other legendary Pokemon have been much discussed as well, including the duo of Mew and Mewtwo.
Any fan of the original anime cartoon knows how rare these Legendary Pokemon really are. There’s been a few reports of legendary being caught, some real but most are fake. Then again, once these rare Pokemon are finally released, trainers will finally be able to catch them legitimately.
Last week Niantic took back a Legendary Pokemon from a trainer in Ohio, who had caught Articuno. In the released statement the Pokemon Go developer apologized saying that it had been a “mistake” that Articuno was already out in the open.
We’ve known for quite some time that the code for these Pokemon existed in Pokemon Go. Much like the all new tracker, it’s just a waiting game until Niantic “flips the switch” as it were.
Legendary Pokemon Coming Soon
According to reports from several sources, Niantic has confirmed that these Legendary Pokemon will be released this fall. Although the exact date is not yet known, we have confirmed that Mewtwo, Mew, Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres will be wild Pokemon.
Niantic also confirmed that there will be a Legendary Pokemon that will be part of a special event. This could be Ditto, who has been long rumored to be the center of a wide scale trainer event of some sort.
Thanks to the efforts of the Pokemon Go Reddit community, we’ve confirmed that none of the Legendary Pokemon have capture rates at the moment. Through the game code, we also know that Mewtwo has a staggering base attack rating of 284. By comparison a perfect Dragonite will only have a base attack of 250.
Many have speculated that the lack of a catch or flee rating means that Legendary Pokemon will be caught some other way. It remains to be seen just how Niantic will integrate these rare and Legendary Pokemon into the game however.
