In a recent interview with Recode, Niantic CEO John Hanke has revealed quite a bit about the upcoming game features like PVP battle. We’ve known for quite some time that additional features like trading exist in the game code, but we still don’t have much of a timetable for activation.

Much of the interview reveals quite a bit about the new Pokemon Go updates. However for those players looking forward to PVP battle, there’s some bad news. It appears that although PVP battle is something that Niantic has discussed internally, it’s not yet close to being a real function.

PVP Battle Details Revealed in Interview with John Hanke

The interviewer at Recode asked Niantic CEO about upcoming features, and John Hanke had this to say;

“IF: What about things like trading or battling your friends directly, are those things we’re likely to see, or [are they] really [not] part of the spirit of what you have in mind?

John Hanke : No, those are great social activities, and we’ve said in the past that trading is coming, and player-versus-player battling is something that we talk a lot about internally, and I think it very much is within the spirit of Pokémon Go. So it’s possible you’ll see that as well.”

What we can take from this interview is that Pokemon Go trading seems much closer to release than we might think. Niantic has confirmed that the next update will include catch bonuses designed to make it easier to catch rare Pokemon in the wild. Could Pokemon Go trading also be part of the next update? According to the Niantic timetable, there’s just a few more days until the next Pokemon Go update, so we’ll have to wait and see.
